PanaCast helped us connect teams to each other, especially in big meetings where we couldn’t possibly be in the same room with each other. As a fundamentally multi-site, intercontinental organization, PanaCast was a very important tool for Misfit.
For organizations that need to connect people in conference rooms or regularly have teams from different locations meet over video, PanaCast is a no-brainer. The hassle of trying to use a pan-and-tilt system – especially when you’re in the thick of an intense call, just isn’t worth it.
Misfit’s promise to its customers is to stay “always on”. This simple phrase informs their design principles, their business approach and the devices’ unique product features. Misfit develops wearable products with sensor technology for the health and fitness industry. Their singular focus is to make useful, ubiquitous computing a reality by making technology either beautiful or invisible. Sonny Vu – Misfit’s Founder and CEO – founded the wearables device maker in 2011. The company now has offices worldwide and is loved by customers worldwide. As testament to this, Misfit has won Red Dot and other international design awards for every product it has shipped until 2015.
In order to stay “always on”, Vu knew he needed to foster a culture of global collaboration at Misfit. To accomplish this, he needed effective collaboration technology that would enable dialogue between the company’s offices in Asia and the United States. “We regularly needed to facilitate conversations between individuals in our Shenzhen, Beijing, Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco offices,” recalls Vu. For instance, the company would frequently conduct “All Hands” all-company meetings with 50+ employees per location. Vu quickly realized he had a problem when he started to notice that traditional pan-and-tilt video conferencing solutions were not capturing everyone in the room during these calls. “We had so many people around the table per conference room and no wide angle or pan-and-tilt camera could cover the entire room at any given time,” Vu adds. Eager to solve this problem, Vu proactively sought out a camera that would capture everyone within the room’s field of view. He also wanted a camera solution that would promote a more natural, immersive meeting experience.
Upon implementing PanaCast, Vu noticed an immediate shift in meeting dynamics: every meeting participant was visible within PanaCast’s field of view and was now able to participate in the meeting regardless of his or her location. “PanaCast helped us connect teams to each other, especially in big meetings where we couldn’t possibly be in the same room with each other,” Vu says. “As a fundamentally multi-site, intercontinental organization, PanaCast was a very important tool for Misfit.” Vu began to notice that PanaCast enabled more seamless and effective meetings and eliminated disruptions during these all company meetings. After 2 years of being a PanaCast customer, Vu is convinced that any company with global offices could benefit from the camera system. “For organizations that need to connect people in conference rooms or regularly have teams from different locations meet over video, PanaCast is a no-brainer,” he declares. “The hassle of trying to use a pan-and-tilt system, especially when you’re in the thick of an intense call just isn’t worth the hassle.” In this way, PanaCast has helped Misfit stay “always on”.
